Goodbye... Jό napot!
Cheese n’ rice mate, I’m on the plane heading towards my
next adventure. I would like to be asleep at the moment to be honest but hey,
this gives me time to do something a bit more productive with my time. My farewells
to my family were not as hard as I imagined them to be. Tears were definitely shed
and the nerves were (and still are) pretty high. The last vision of my parents
were waves from the other side of security just before stepping out of sight for years.
After all of the work I did to reduce my amount of luggage I
still have two 50lb checked bags (1st free 2nd $100
Delta) plus one 20lb carry-on duffle and my personal item (school size backpack).
Considering my amount of time away I am okay with how much luggage I have
brought with me. I made a new friend on the plane who brought the same amount of luggage as me! She is a lovely 23 year old Canadian named Angela (pictured) who is going to be an exchange student in Milan Italy for four months. We talked nearly 10 hours.
I have been in Pecs for two and a half days now. The friend of my Instagram buddy was waiting for me at the Budapest airport and helped me get to the primary bus station in Budapest. From there he showed me which bus to take then had to split to pick up his girlfriend; leaving me alone in this new country for the first time! When the bus to Pecs arrived I asked the driver to help me with my luggage by hand motions then held out a wad of money from which he grabbed the correct amount for my ticket. The four hour bus ride to Pecs was hot and humid but on it I became friends with a fellow student named Christof. We arrived to Pecs after what seemed like an eternity and I immediately found my friend Berm and two of his friends waiting for me. They carried my bags through a mall, on buses and up stairs until we entered my room. There I met my roommate Sara and the adventure truly began.
Jό Napot: Hungarian greeting similar to hello.
