Introduction-30 Days Away!
Hello there!
My name is Mesa Rose and a month from today I will be flying from Lovell, Wyoming (pop 2,404) to Pecs, Hungary (pop 156,649) where I will study at the University of Pecs. Over the next three and a half years I'm going obtain my bachelors in Social Work and possibly a minor in international relations depending on how I feel. I decided to study abroad last spring, chose which school over the winter, applied this past February and was accepted in April. I was fascinated by the history of Hungary and loved that school I chose was established in 1367 which makes it the oldest university in eastern Europe. Not only is the school old but it's packed with 20,000 students from which 4,000 are international. That's a crazy high number of foreign peers which is comforting because I have never been to this country nor can I speak their language. Another aspect of this school which helps minimize the culture shock is that all of my classes are taught in English which is pretty rare for bachelor's degrees abroad. What really attracts me to Hungary is the $4,000 annual tuition, opportunities for international scholarships, plus wicked cheap cost of living (exp. Dorm < $200 a month. Wyoming rent > $500 a month plus utilities).
I'm stoked to be a student at the University of Pecs but I am definitely not on the plane yet. There are lots of pieces to the puzzle of studying abroad that I chose to procrastinate and with just 30 days its time to crack down. I hope this blog can help me somehow during this transition period and the rest of the stages that are a part of getting a degree abroad. Huge bonus if reading this could help someone else decide whether or not the want to follow a similar path or make their own process run a bit smoother. To my parent's, family and friends who are reading this "Howdy! Here's some periodic proof that I'm still trying to adult to the best of my ability." I should probably go now and find something productive to do...
Buh-Bye!
I remember when you first told me that you were ready to go back to school, then you said it was going to be abroad. It's going to be hard wIthout here, but I am very proud of you and and all you have accomplished in last two and a half years. You have been dreaming of this since you were in highschool and I am glad you found a good college in such a beautiful country to help make your dream come true.
